Here are answers to common questions and concerns.

Is it safe to install an extension outside the Chrome Web Store?
Yes — the extension is fully open source under the MIT License. You can read every line of TypeScript, verify the network calls, or build it yourself. The .crx is the exact same build output you'd get from running pnpm run build:webpack. We're shipping it directly only because the Chrome Web Store review is still pending.
Chrome shows a "developer mode extensions" warning — is that normal?
Yes, expected for all extensions installed outside the Web Store. You can safely dismiss it each time. Once our submission is approved and you switch to the Web Store version, this warning stops.
Does the extension store my Steam login credentials?
No. The extension never touches your username or password. It only reads responses after Steam has already authenticated you in your browser session — the same data visible in your browser tab.
Will it track me on non-Steam pages?
No. The extension only activates on steamcommunity.com/id/*/inventory* pages — it is completely inactive everywhere else.
Can I use CSTRADEUP without the extension?
Yes. All trade-up calculators, contract browser, simulator, float finder, and market insights work without the extension. The extension only unlocks your personal Portfolio and Trade-Up History features.
How far back does my trade-up history go?
The extension reads Steam's inventory event history page-by-page, following cursor pagination. Each sync picks up from where it left off. The further back Steam's API provides data, the further back we record — typically several months to years depending on your account activity.
Can I build the extension from source myself?
Absolutely. Clone the GitHub repo. Same code we ship in the .crx.
